Fisher House

Fisher House

Supported by the Fisher House Foundation, Fisher Houses, like the one on the grounds of the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, WA, have been built to meet the needs of veterans' family members. These "homes away from home" allow America's military families to be together during extended treatment for serious injury, disease or illness. Veterans and newly returning soldiers travel from throughout the nation to receive their care at VA Puget Sound and most come because of the specialized care and treatment offered for complex and traumatic combat injuries, spinal cord injuries, rehabilitation and comprehensive cancer care. Without these remarkable homes, families would have to find hotel accommodations in the community at their own expense.

After an extended stay at a Fisher House, one mother wrote "I am convinced that our being near our son has given him the strength and courage to survive his extensive burns, and your generosity made it possible for us to be there."

"As the Manager of the VA Puget Sound Fisher House, I am thrilled that PeaceTags™ has identified the Puget Sound Fisher House as a way of honoring the sacrifice and service of our military veterans. PeaceTags™ is unique in allowing the public a way to say thank you while sharing its mission of peace and community service."

~Cecile Bagrow, Manager
VA Puget Sound Fisher House

"It is so fitting that the founder of PeaceTags™, whose family was so deeply touched by VA medical care, would come full circle by reaching out to help bring recognition to Fisher House and the support families will receive. It's a wonderful way to connect community, veterans, family members and the community."

Voices in Wartime

Voices in Wartime

The Voices in Wartime Education Project uses art and education to help create a less violent world and heal the trauma caused by war. The organization's vision is of a transformed American educational system that enables students in thousands of high schools and colleges to engage deeply with the subject of war, its causes and consequences, its multiple tragedies and devastating trauma, by hearing, telling, and re-telling the personal stories of witnesses to war; and then engages students in imagining and creating a less violent world. They provide films, curricula, books, photo exhibits, web-based self-publishing and information resources, hands-on training for teachers that will help young people understand the roots of conflict and help to rebuild healthy human communities.

"I am honored and grateful that our work, along with that of Fisher House Foundation, can benefit from PeaceTags™. Both Voices in Wartime and Fisher House Foundation share a mission of healing the wounds of war, honoring the service and sacrifice of our veterans, and helping create a more peaceful world. PeaceTags™ point to a future in which our young people can create a more sustainable and moral world."
